UN Resolution for International Day of Hope

Hope is Now Recognized at the United Nations!

We are thrilled to announce that the International Day of Hope has been officially recognized by the United Nations and will now be celebrated on July 12th!

Hope is not just a feeling but a teachable, measurable skill that transforms lives. Our Founder, Kathryn Goetzke, spoke of ‘why’ we need an International Day of Hope at the United Nations at a Children’s event for mental health.

We extend our deepest gratitude to H.E. Ambassador Teburoro Tito of the Kiribati Mission to the United Nations for their incredible leadership in championing resolution A/79/L.54, turning the vision into a reality.

Watch Ambassador Tito address the United Nations for why this resolution is critical.

As Ambassador Tito mentioned, there were 161 countries in support, four abstaining (India, Paraguay, Peru, and Türkiye), and one single vote against it (the United States).

We have highlighted the areas of the UN resolution that may have been an issue for the United States, that refers to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and that the language conflicts with US Policy that seeks to eliminate all forms of discrimination and create equal opportunities for all. We fail to see how any language in the resolution advocates for anything other than equality for all. We see this as a call to action for all in the US to stand up for Hope on July 12th.

We are also immensely grateful to the organizations and advocates who have supported this movement. We need all hands on deck for hope. So sign up for the newsletter, mark your calendars for July 12th, measure your hope, and sign up for the Five-Day Challenge to get ready to make this day the biggest day of all.
